Amalfi, the Sea Republic that gives the name to the whole Coastline, is the most important historical centre and offers, to her visitors, monuments of historical and artistic interest as:
The town of Pogerola, distant from the worldly zones more frequented, are known for its quiet and for the fresh air and cleaned that can breathe in every angle of the suburb. During the Middle Ages it became a strategic point of defense for the city of Amalfi and her principals artistic and religious monuments are:
The city of Positano was a port of the Amalfi Republic in medieval times, prospered during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries and abducts the look for the characteristic disposition of its colored houses.
Positano was a relatively poor fishing village during the first half of the twentieth century and it began to attract large numbers of tourists in the 1950s.
Between the annual events we remember: the Cartoons On The Bay, St. Vito festivity, Santa maria Assunta festivity and Positano Opera Prima.
Famous for its 'Positano Fashion' exported all over the world, Positano cultural landmarks are:
The city of Ravello is situated in the tall part of the Amalfi Coast, to around 350 meters altitude.
The town has served historically as a destination for artists, musicians, and writers and every year in the summer months, the 'Ravello Festival' takes place.
Ravello principals artistic and religious monuments are:
Amalfi is famous all over the world for its glorious past and for the sea. Only
a few people, however, have visited its charming jewel: the natural reserve called 'Valle delle
Ferriere'.
Botanists know this reserve thanks to the presence of a plant which is very rare in Europe,
Woodwardia radicans: it is a so-called living
fossil, that lived during Tertiary age. This is a very important example of pre-glacial age; the reserve
is also the habitat of different kinds of orchids and of a small carnivore plant, called Pinguicolahirtiflora, a plant that lives eating small insects.
In the middle of this path there the ancient ironworks factory that gives its name to the valley: it
provided iron to the ancient Republic of Amalfi.
Since the path is easy, there is no need to use special tools or equipments: it is important to wear
long trousers and comfortable shoes, fit for mountain walking. The most important thing to
remember is to bring a camera to take beautiful photos.
Forgetting it would be a great mistake!
Each visitor should complete the holiday in Villa Vettica with an excursion on
the famous path called 'Sentiero degli Dei'.
People start from Agerola (from a hamlet called Bomerano, 635 meters above sea level) or from
Praiano (0 meters above sea level) to go to Nocelle in Positano (440 meters above sea level).
Leaving from Bomerano, visitors can walk almost completely through a descending path, in a more
comfortable way, while leaving from Praiano means to go first to Serra hill (570 meters above sea
level).
Landscape is everywhere wonderful; the sea accompanies the visitors and can be seen from very
high spots (not recommended to vertigo sufferers).
The panorama of Capri and of Sorrento
Peninsula is actually spectacular.
The vegetation of the first part of the path is made of grass and a few trees: sheep and goats graze
there. In the second part of the path, there are more trees with ilexes and arbutus berries.
Now the excursionist can choose to go down the 1500 steps of the staircase to reach the road and
to have the possibility to bathe in the wonderful sea of Positano or can
go to Pertuso Mount (352 meters above sea level).
The path is slightly difficult. It is around 8 km long. It takes almost 2,30/3 hours to
complete.
Slowly excavated into the rock, deep up to the bowels of the Conca dei Marini
crag, near Amalfi, is the Grotta dello Smeraldo (Emerald Grotto), a real natural spectacle that
enlightens the sight of the visitors.
Discovered in 1932 by a local fisherman, it took the name of the
precious gem for its characteristic coloration reflected by the waters that goes from cobalt blue to
emerald green, due to the sunlight that filters through an 12-meter underwater entrance.
The wide
rocky cave presents a scenography naturally created by the marine erosion with stalactites and
stalagmites.
Luminous and iridescent it hides an underwater nativity scene made with Vietri Sul
Mare ceramics.
The Fiord of Furore is a natural reserve placed to it leads him/it of a valley
that, morphologically speaking, it has its forehand result on the sea.
The perpetual job of the to flow
some river Schiato, coming from the mountains of Agerola, the birth of this famous suburb has
made possible, known as country of the fishermen.
Roberto Rossellini and Anna Magnani lived (during the resumptions of the film "The love") and the
town has devoted them a particular Museum.

The Ravello Festival is one of the oldest and most renowned festivals in
Italy.
It began in 1953 in honour of Richard Wagner, who signed the guestbook of his local hotel
with the words "The magical garden of Klingsor is found" suggesting that it was in Ravello that the
composer found the inspiration for his Parsifal.
The Festival as we know it today is the outcome of a number of previous initiatives, and Girolamo
Bottiglieri and Paolo Caruso were the chief architects of the annual event that led to Ravello
becoming the “City of Music”. The connection between Villa Rufolo, the delightful venue made
impressive and welcoming by the Scottish philanthropist Francis Neville Reid, and Richard Wagner
was too alluring to pass up the idea of holding concerts in a place consecrated by the visit of the
composer himself.
In over half a century the stage overlooking the sea has hosted excellent symphony orchestras
(Dresden Staatskapelle, Munchner Philharmoniker, Royal Philharmonic, London Symphony
Orchestra, Kirov Theatre, Leningrad, Leipzig Gewandhaus, Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di
Santa Cecilia, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Orchestre National de France, West Eastern Divan
Orchestra, St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra);
27June
Each June 27th, Amalfi holds a festival in honor of Sant'Andrea, the
town's patron saint and the protector of fishermen and fishmongers.
The event commemorates the miraculous storm of 1544, apparently conjured up by the saint,
which prevented the Saracen pirate Kair-Ad-Din from conquering the city.
The festival begins with a procession during which a statue of the saint, who the locals
affectionately refer to as "'o' viecchio" (the Old One), is carried to the beach.
Here, the fishermen take over and it is their job to take the statue all the way to the Duomo.
The event concludes with a beautiful firework display over the sea surrounding the Amalfi Coast.
03May
A new event for the Amalfi Coast, which has its stage in the world's most popular scenic route: the "Path of the Gods".
The project aims to combine a passion for music and love for the environment with a series of concerts of classical and contemporary music, which will take place in the beautiful views of Lattari monts, in the churchyard of St. Mary in Castro and between the ruins of the ancient cave dwellings.
The initiative is an idea of Pelagos Association and the City of Praiano, in the month of May until the end of October, at the event will collaborate National and International Musicians.
Each event will include a hike from Praiano, Positano and Agerola up the trail, natural theater of these places, ranging from Punta Campanella to Capri island.

Every year, since 1606, Praiano inhabitants used to decorate its balconies, terraces, gardens with lighting system composed by wax and oil.
This custom handed from 1599, when Dominican Monks came to the Monastery of Santa Maria a Castro, placed on the hill above Praiano.“Luminaria di San Domenico” is an Event which comes true every year from August 1st to August 4th to celebrate San Domenico.
On August 4th , very early in the morning (the first Mass is at 6.30 am), Praiano celebrates San Domenico’s Festival.
“Luminaria di San Domenico” has a particular meaning: Domenico’s Mother, before giving him birth, she dreamed a dog with a torch in his mouth to burn the world.
So when Domenico was born he had to diffuse “God’s word all over the world”.

To get to the old Trattoria Da Gemma, you need to enter the main square of Amalfi, where you will find the superb Duomo, from the high street that leads upwards, you turn down a narrow alley on the left and you will arrive here.
The Trattoria is elegant with simple furniture, ceramic paved floors and a terrace which faces over the heart of the town, these are some of the elements that characterize the place, of which many poets have praised its greatness since 1872, and faithful to the simplicity of the Trattoria’s humble origins its seafood dishes and regional cooking recipes have stayed unchanged throughout time. In its cosy environment the Trattoria Da Gemma seats 60 people, a really special place for those who are willing to explore and discover every little corner of the Divine Coast and Amalfi itself, and yet wanting a wonderful tasteful memory.
